What do I wear to a HooperPower Hoopdance class?
What do I wear to a HooperPower Hoopdance class?
Make sure to wear comfy clothing that allows for movement. Traction loves natural fibers and skin (tank tops). Slippery loves synthetics. Professional hoops are provided for class use. Don’t forget to bring water!

How has contemporary hoopdance developed over the years?
Hooping.org says “Hooping began creeping the American collective consciousness a decade ago. Certainly, fans of the band, The String Cheese Incident deserve some credit for kicking off the second revolution of [American] hooping. The band has been known to toss hoops into the audience during shows since the mid-90s.”

Hooping then began to make its way into underground dance communities and eventually visionaries developed the danceform and it is being made more accessible to people all over the world through hoop fitness, hoopdance and hoop performance instruction.

Can I fly with my hoop?
All HooperPower hoops travel well on planes. Our hoops can be checked as oversize baggage on almost every airline (check with your carrier). Our HooperPower GoHoop™ collapses and can be stowed in the carryon baggage compartment and/or checked on most airlines (check with your carrier).

*If checking your hoop, be sure to wrap with newspaper or trashbags to protect it from damage.

Is there a difference between “hooping” and hula hooping?
Yes. Very much so. Contemporary Hoopdance takes the Hula Hooping craze of the 50’s to a completely NEW level. Hooping or Hoopdance today is similar to hula hooping in that you are rotating a hoop around your waist, but contemporary hooping is stylistically very different. It draws from many dance forms and incorporates numerous movements to create a unique form of fitness and meditation for ALL ages, especially adults. Kids don’t get to have all the fun.

How do I care for my hoop?
1. When not in use, store your hoop flat in a cool place out of the sun.
2. To store your hoop in the car, gently bend the hoop between both hands until it passes through the door and release it so it can expand in the trunk or backseat.
3. Do not leave your hoop in the hot sun or hot temps for extended periods of time.
4. Ideally, use your hoop on soft surfaces. Gravel, ashpalt and concrete are enemies of the hoop...when a hoop lands on these surfaces, the hoop covering can be damaged.
5. Avoid tug o' war or sitting on your hoop.
6. If your hoop becomes dirty, just dampen a washcloth with soap and gently wash away the dirt.
7. Ultimately, use caution. Treat your hoop like a friend.
